The WP2 research objectives set out in the proposal for this research were fulfilled by drawing up the deliverables and the activities presented below. Specifically, the activities through which the research objectives of the WP2 were met are the following:

1.  Scientific paper entitled: The spread of “fake news” – Reflections on the Practices and Limits of Internet Disinformation Prevention” (in greek), Vol. 2019 of the scientific journal “Criminal Justice” (ed. Nomiki Vivliothiki), p. 57 f. after evaluation and approval by the scientific committee of the journal (reviewers).

In this paper, measures and practices are presented in order to prevent disinformation and dissemination of false news. The reasons which make this approach timely and compelling are also outlined. Due to this reason, the nature of modern “digital” information societies, the specific characteristics of information systems (development field and asymetric dispersion of fake news) as well as the limits/ obstacles related to prevention interventions in general, are taken into consideration (protection of fundamental rights, displacement of crime, difficulty in keeping the legislators constantly aware of the progressive developments and so on). The analysis includes forms of prevention at penal general preventive level and according to the criminology sight of social and occasional prevention. Finally, a critical approach to prevention policies is carried out. All the above elements are used in the design of research and research hypotheses, in the preparation of the questionnaire and in conferences and lectures abroad. The above analysis occur for the first time in Greek legal and forensic literature.

2.  Scientific article entitled:The fight against “fake news”, “hoaxes” and misinformation on the internet at European and international level” (in greek), Vol. 10 (October 2019) of CrimeTimes” scientific journal of the Crime Study Center.

The elements of this article are used in the design of research and research hypotheses, in the preparation of the questic literonnaire and in conferences and lectures abroad. The above analyses occur for the first time in Greek legal and forensiature.

3. lectures by the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Hochschule der Medien (HdM) (in greek) in Stuttgart, Germany from 13.01.2020 to 15.01.2020 with subject:

a) perspectives on the practices and limits of preventing the spread of fake news on the Internet (in greek), and

b) changes in Greek criminal law regarding cybercrime and their critical approach (in greek)

The elements of these presentations are used in the design of research and research hypotheses and in the preparation of the questionnaire. Moreover, the research objective for presentations and lectures abroad is immediately fulfilled.

Additionally, training the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Research on research methodology and internet culture issues in conducting research.

4. Preparing and writing an abstract for the lectures of the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Researcher at Sami Shamoon College of Engineering to Israel on June of 2020 and after postponement on October of 2020 with subject: The issue of online fake news and disinformation – Criminal and criminological aspects of prevention(in greek). Moreover, during this visit the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Researcher will attempt to collect data for the conduct of the main survey.

5. Submission of summary for suggestion presentation by the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Researcher and the research’ scientific cooperator Dr. Vasileios Karagiannopoulos entitled Regulating fake news in the Internet era(in greek) στο συνέδριο της British Society of Criminology on July 8-10, 2020 with thematic “Criminology in an Age of Global Injustice(s)” in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

This presentation will also present results of the pilot survey which took place during WP2 of the research project.

Submission of summary for presentation by the Research Supervisor / Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Team Member Evangelia Androulakis entitled “The issue of online fake news and disinformation – Criminal and criminological aspects of prevention(in greek) at the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology conference on 21-22 August 2020 in Malaysia (in English).

This presentation will also present results of the pilot survey which took place during WP2 of the research project.

These actions are also activities for publicity and promotion of the project with the corresponding reference to the funding of the project by HFRI and the GSRT, as provided in the project promotion rules and according to the possibilities of the graphic environment of the places of publication.
